To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the friendship between Cartier founder, Louis Cartier, and the famous Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont, Cartier has created the Santos 100. Alberto Santos Dumont was well-known all over the world as the pioneer of aviation in Europe, who flew in France and other parts of Europe in some of the initial prototypes of airplanes. Cartier took up a challenge to design a wristwatch with a leather strap specifically for his friend after the aviator complained at the difficulties he had while trying to find out the time using his pocket watch during the flights. The Santos 100 is considered the most masculine wristwatch ever developed by Cartier. You will immediately notice the Santos 100?s bigger size compared to the traditional Santos Galbee. Although the Santos 100 is a decidedly masculine watch, it is still very much Cartier with the classic white dial and black Roman numerals. The hands have been made out of luminous black steel, offering extreme readability. The Cartier Santos 100 comes in three sizes (midsize, large, and extra-large) in steel, steel and gold, yellow gold, and pink gold, on leather strap or metal bracelet. The extra-large size is only available in a chronograph version. Some models are also embellished with diamonds. The Cartier Santos 100 is equipped with a self-winding mechanical movement in all sizes, and is water resistant up to a depth of 100 meters.
