Cat?s Eye dials are the result of complex handcrafted work. Up to 45 operations through 30 different work stations are required for their production. These dials are made of several plates including a mother-of-pearl plate, delicate, soft and particularly difficult to slice. Circular graining is applied on the base plate to soften its surface. It is directly sculpted and diamond set to create its features. Take, for instance, the power reserve sector. The upper plate is the result of a complex work of marquetry with different mother-of-pearl colors. The mother-of-pearl is gently hand polished to give more depth and shine to its shades and color. To fit perfectly with the profiles of the bottom plate the mother-of-pearl has to be delicately cut, with the constant risk of shattering or crumbling.
