Franck Muller Cintree Curvex Revolution 3 Tourbillon watch, tonneau-shaped 18kt white gold case (63mm length, including lugs x 48mm width, 14.6mm thickness) with transparent caseback, black alligator leather strap with 18kt white gold pin buckle, silver-white dial with black Arabic numerals, retrograde indication at 5 and 7 o'clock shows seconds carriage revolving in 60 seconds and middle carriage revolving in 8 minutes, 23 jewel manual-winding movement with Revolution 3 Tri-Axial Tourbillon and 10 day power reserve, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.
The tourbillon was designed for a pocket watch and therefore for a vertical position. However, as a wristwatch echoes the positions of its wearer, its average position can vary considerably and so display a relatively substantial operating variation. To remedy this disadvantage, Franck Muller?s team of engineers has designed a tri-axial tourbillon, i.e. a tourbillon which includes a cage (A) that contains the balance wheel and escapement rotating according to its axis. Cage A is in turn mounted in a second cage (B) so that it can turn around a different axis. Cage B is also mounted in a third cage (C) which turns around a fixed axis relative to the timepiece. This encasing system for the cages renders the watch totally independent of terrestrial gravity. Viewed as a genuine revolution, this timepiece has made a permanent mark on the world of fine watchmaking.
