IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar III Watch, round 18kt white gold case (44.2mm diameter, 15.5mm thickness) with see-through caseback, brown crocodile leather strap with 18kt white gold deployant buckle, ardoise gray dial with white gold hands and Arabic numerals, power reserve display, perpetual calendar with displays for the date, day, month, year in four digits and perpetual moon phase, small hacking seconds, 62 jewel Caliber 51613 self-winding mechanical movement with Pellaton winding system and 168 hour power reserve, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, water resistant to 30 meters.
The moon phase display on the Portuguese Perpetual Calendar, Reference 5023, is grandscale theatre on a tiny stage. Attended by a cluster of embossed stars, the moon rises behind the hemispherical cut-out on the left and waxes to full moon in the centre, before disappearing on the right-hand side. IWC?s design engineers have calculated that the moon phase display deviates from the duration of the moon?s actual course by just 1 day in 577.5 years. No one has so far noticed the difference. In other respects, this elegant, up-to-the-minute timepiece leaves virtually no wish unfulfilled: perpetual calendar, four-digit year display, and a 7-day automatic movement with Pellaton winding and power reserve display. Reference 5023 is available in two versions: in a red gold case with silver-coloured dial and red-gold-plated moon against a midnight blue background; or slightly more restrained, in white gold with rhodium-plated appliqu?s on a slate-coloured dial with a sun-pattern finish. As in the sister models (Reference 5021), the cases now measure 44.2 millimetres in diameter.
