Rolex Submariner Date watch, round stainless steel case (40mm diameter, 13mm thickness) with shoulders to protect the screw-down Triplock winding crown, time-lapse rotatable stainless steel bezel with black insert, adjustable stainess steel Oysterlock bracelet with wetsuit extension link, black dial with luminous hour markers, date calendar at 3 o'clock, 31 jewel Caliber 3135 self-winding Oyster Perpetual chronometer movement, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, pressure-proof to 300 meters (1000 feet).
The Submariner (along with the Datejust) is easily one of the most recognisable models that Rolex produces. It is also one of the widely copied watches. On 30th September 1953, Rolex, never one to miss a marketing opportunity, created major worldwide interest when a specially manufactured Rolex Submariner accompanied Professor Auguste Piccard and his son, Jacques on their new bathyscaphe to a world record depth of 10335ft below the ocean surface. The watch has been part of expeditions both at sea (such as the Piccard and Moana expeditions) and overland in the Antarctic (where it withstood temperatures of 45 degrees below zero Celsius). Fitted with a Caliber 3130 self-winding automatic movement and water-resistant to 300 meters (1000 feet), this model is also known as the "James Bond watch", as it has appeared in 11 James Bond movies.
