“Launched in 1989, it draws inspiration from the curved Tank watch, reproducing the curvature of its case. A marvel of watch-making that plays with geometry, alternating between sharp and soft effects, straight lines and curves, rounded edges and corners, the Tank Americaine watch is also the first Cartier model to have an arched, water-resistant case. With this creation, Cartier affirms itself as a fully-fledged watchmaker. Chunky, solid and aware of its own beauty, the Tank Americaine watch also pioneers the first adjustable strap adapted to the famous deployant buckle, which is patented by Cartier in 1910. Its power and the elegance of its stretched, slightly convex, rectangular shape make it a great classic, midway between a dressy watch and a casual watch, and a very Americaine way of life lesson in style…the secret to its eternal popularity." - Cartier
The Cartier Tank Americaine comes in four sizes (small, midsize, large, and extra-large) in yellow gold, rose gold, and white gold on a leather strap or metal bracelet. The extra-large size is available either plain or with a chronograph function, and comes with a deployant buckle (clasp). Some models are embellished with diamonds. The Cartier Tank Americaine is equipped with quartz movement in the small model, and a self-winding mechanical movement in the midsize, large, and extra-large models, and is water resistant up to a depth of 30 meters.
